WATER STORAGE
The general rule of thumb is that you’ll need one gallon of water per person per day. Half a gallon is used for drinking and the other half is used for hygiene. That number will go up depending on a whole host of factors. If you live in a hot climate or have pregnant or nursing women in your group, you’ll want to store more water.
Many prepper sites recommend pre-treating your water with chlorine to help prevent algae and bacteria growth. However, several sites claim that this isn’t even necessary because tap water is already treated with chlorine.
Water Storage Guidelines
1 gallon per person per day
3-day supply x 1 person = 3 gallons
14 days (2-week supply) x 1 person = 14 gallons
(number of days of water needed) x (number of persons in your home) = gallons to store

You can tell if a container is food grade in several ways:
1. Plastics #’s 1, 2, 4, 7 are the plastics used for food grade containers. You can find this number in the little triangular recycle symbol on the bottom.
2. Also on the bottom, there’ll be a symbol indicating the container safe to freeze or store in a pantry.
3. The container often says on the package when you buy it, “Freezer, Refrigerator, Pantry Safe.” Or something like that to indicate that you can put food and water in there.
