Infuriating Immigration Story
Just when you think the situation at our southern border can’t get any worse, or the handling of it by the Biden Administration any more shocking, something like this cranks it up another notch.
Whistleblower tells Congress that govt is delivering migrant children to human traffickers
Health and Human Services (HHS) whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas testified to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement that she’s seen firsthand that the federal government is delivering migrant children into the hands of human traffickers who put them into forced labor and other forms of slavery.
I’m going to quote her verbatim because I don’t want to get any details wrong, but I also don’t trust myself not to become furious if I try to recount this myself:
“I thought I was going to help place children in loving homes. Instead, I discovered that children are being trafficked through a sophisticated network that begins with recruiting in their home country, smuggled to the U.S. border, and ends when [Office of Refugee Resettlement] delivers a child to a sponsor. Some sponsors are criminals and traffickers and members of Transnational Criminal Organizations. Some sponsors view children as commodities and assets to be used for earning income — this is why we are witnessing an explosion of labor trafficking.”
“Whether intentional or not, it could be argued that the U.S. government has become the middleman in a large scale, multibillion-dollar child trafficking operation that is run by bad actors seeking to profit off of the lives of children.”
This situation is so bad that even the New York Times has started covering it, accusing officials of ignoring signs of “explosive” growth in child labor.
Rodas said she sees it as a humanitarian rather than political issue, since it’s been going on for at least 10 years. But I have to assume the “explosive” recent growth is due to the explosion in illegal immigration that’s resulted from this Administration’s open border policies. They didn’t seem to care about what these children suffered in making the dangerous trek to our border or being smuggled in by coyotes. But having allowed them to come in by the tens of thousands, they aren’t even protecting them from human traffickers, and are even facilitating it?
I’ve seen a lot of scandalous stuff in the past two-plus years, but this is the worst and the most unconscionable. If this Administration would fight as hard to save children from human traffickers as it does to keep killing them in the womb, this problem could be ended.
