Rep. Dorothy Moon Announces Reelection Bid

Representative Dorothy Moon announced, Monday, March 2nd that she will run for a third term representing Legislative District 8B.

Moon serves on the following committees: Education; Environment, Energy & Technology; and Resources & Conservation. She has worked with her constituents on the Salmon Challis Forest Plan revision and appreciates citizen involvement with many state and federal agency issues including: Idaho Fish & Game, Department of Lands, Department of Agriculture, Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Governor’s Office of Species Conservation. Rep. Moon and Rep. Boyle, District 9, recently acquired a “fuels reduction” pilot program grant from the U.S.F.S. Washington D.C. office for the Salmon-Challis Forest.

On the House Education Committee Moon has been involved replacing the Common Core Standards and the SBAC testing. Student achievement scores have been disappointing for the past eight years and graduation rates stagnant. Standards to challenge students and improve outcomes are a top priority for both the Senate and House Education Committees. This summer an interim committee will review standards and testing protocols from other states to consider options that offer more productive education opportunities.

Rep. Moon has a strong conservative voting record and has received the American Conservative Achievement Award each of her four years. She has also received the “Friend of Mining 2020” award from the Idaho Mining Association for her work on mining legislation. Rep. Moon was named “Legislator of the Year” in 2018 by the Idaho State Republican Party. Dorothy and her husband, Darr of 28 years live up the Yankee Fork east of Stanley. They have two adult sons, Dane and Parker.
