As I watched Cliven Bundy emerge from the Las Vegas courthouse, a free man, one of the people to greet him was a black woman who told Cliven how much she supported his cause. Cliven told her, as he affectionately placed his hand on her shoulder, how much he appreciated the black prisoners who treated him so well. If I recall correctly, Cliven said they treated him like a king and he was humbled and grateful.

Is that the talk of a racist?

Ammon Bundy, in a recent speech comparing many government power brokers (not all) to robbers, Ammon spoke about how the media was relentless in portraying his family as the bad guys. At the 41:00 mark, Ammon gives a long explanation of how white Europeans exploited and robbed the black natives in Congo of their land and resources.

Later, Ammon tells how a high ranking man in the prison system met with Ammon privately and told Ammon he was going to Africa to do service and what would Ammon suggest would be the best way that he could help the African people. Ammon told him that he should help them get their land and resources back so they had more control over their own destinies and could escape the cycle of poverty and social decay that they found themselves in.

Does that sound like the son of a racist?

Dinesh D’Souza Says It Better

I watched a speech by D’Souza who addressed a heckler who asked him to prove that the Democrats are racists now. As I heard him expound on the history of racism propagated by the Democratic party, I said to myself, “Bingo!”. This is what Cliven Bundy was trying to say!

D’Souza lays out the proof that the Democrats were the pro slavery party and that the Republicans were the abolition party. Lincoln was a Republican.

In answer to the challenge by the heckler that the Democrats are no longer racist, D’Souza answers by showing the vast centralized government system of socialized welfare, actually makes things worse for blacks, and therefore, is racist. The Democrats are known for their bias in favor of large, centralized government with large socialist welfare programs.

D’Souza compares the slave plantations to the 2 dozen Democratically controlled inner cities of today. He says that the slave plantations had 5 things in common with these 24 inner cities:

  1. Broken down, dilapidated housing.
  2. Broken families with missing fathers and the family in decay
  3. High degree of violence. Police state, barbed wire, etc.
  4. Shared poverty. Everybody got free housing, free medical care but nobody got ahead.
  5. Despair and intergenerational loss of hope, a feeling that this is just the way it is.

The Democrats launched the War on Poverty in the 1960’s but they are no better off today than they were in the 60’s although trillions have been spent on various social welfare programs.

Cliven, when describing the black families on welfare in the government housing in Las Vegas, had good reason to wonder if they are really that much better off than what they had on the plantation.

Thomas Sowell, a Marxist black activist*, tends to agree with Cliven:

The blacks in the West Indies had all sorts of experiences growing their own food, selling the surplus in the market, and, in fact, being responsible for budgeting what they had. Black [slaves] in the United States were deliberately kept from having that. Dependence was seen as the key to holding the slaves down. It’s ironic that that same principle comes up in the welfare state 100 years later.

The black family survived centuries of slavery and generations of Jim Crow, but it has disintegrated in the wake of the liberals’ expansion of the welfare state.”

Cliven Bundy’s comments were not motivated by racism, they were motivated by a deep feeling of sorrow for the blacks and what a large, irresponsible federal government was doing to them. Cliven knows that when one is deprived of property, when independence is replaced by government dependence, then we and our posterity are facing the same fate as the blacks that he saw in slums of Las Vegas.

And it is that concern for them that was felt by the black inmates who treated him so well.

*A self-proclaimed Marxist in his twenties, Sowell served in the United States Marine Corps. (during the Korean War). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, his masters from Columbia University, and his Ph.D from the University of Chicago. It was at the University of Chicago, under the tutelage of Milton Friedman, and after his short stint as an economic analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor, where Dr. Sowell lost faith in government institutions’ ability to effectuate positive outcomes in society.   2. It is hilarious that Mr. Pearce finds it necessary to “interpret” the lunatic ruminations of “Constitutional Scholar” Cliven Bundy. Most normals would read or hear what he sez and conclude he is a delusional fruitcake…particularly when he philosophizes regarding “the Negro…picking cotton”. The same conclusion is reached when he demands that the Clark County Sheriff stack the arms of Federal Law enforcement at his feet (as if the Feds don’t have Second Amendment rights as does his militia goons)…and destroy the Park Service fee collection stations within the hour. Delusions of grandeur, anyone?? Who elected him sheriff??…and who gave him authority to close down I-15??

    Mr. Pearce…you may have greater linguistic and/or mental capacity than the doofus Cliven, but you make an ass of yourself trying to “interpret” his remarks as if he were some sort of Thomas Sowell or Milton Friedman. That makes you look almost as much the fruitcake as good ‘ole Cliven. Good luck with that.

    It is also rich that Ammon would suggest that Africans take their land and resources back from “robbers”. Perhaps Ammon should practice what he preaches and give the Bundy homestead and grazing range back to the Piutes from whom that land was originally taken. I’m sure the Moapa Band of Piutes would agree with Ammon on that count…as the Piutes are among the most vocal proponents of the Gold Butte National Monument.

  3. It’s not just Democrats that seek to enslave their fellow man, it is government people – voters, politicians, judges, bureaucrats, government contractors. It is government people who use every form of effort to enslave others.

  4. Great Article, I lost all respect for Glenn Beck when he tried to make Bundy look stupid. They were at odds with the idea that Federal government owns land in an interview in the beginning of the stand off. Glenn was the one who had it wrong.
    I do want to make a correction, Thomas Sowell is a Economist that at a very young age had Marxist beliefs, However for the majority of his adult age he has been a Conservative. Wrote a mountain of books on the subject.

  5. Thanks Loren… Man, we get around don’t we ? Good seeing you in Salt Lake City..Beck can distance himself all he likes, we’re leaving him far behind. I have to chuckle at the shot of Cliven and Carol leaving the courthouse – ol Klayman has a knack for putting himself center screen. This Armargosa Valley is one of the Antipodes for sure, never heard of it till this Patch of Heaven thing. Apparently this desolation was a hideout for outlaws way back, but now organized crime has taken over – the US Fish and Wildlife.

      • It is definitely a racket. And from their postings on the Federal Register they like to be called: “We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service”. Probably as being distinct from the plebeian “We the People”.

        Why the USFWS is dealing with the “Cape mountain zebra” whose home land is in South Africa takes some mental wrestling to understand.

        But I completely understand why the forces of the Federal Government should be concerned with the “Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse”. Serious, I get a chuckle every time I read the Federal Register…it is like comics for adults. You just can’t make this stuff up.

        To think full grown adults compiled that lengthy report and that there are reports after reports after reports all year long on the most obscure plants, insects, animals, and fish is staggering. Well, I guess we all can’t compete for real jobs as free people…after what would the “Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse” do without the aegis of the U.S. Federal Government?

        BUT WAIT…THERE IS MORE!
        The Federal Government is asking for it’s citizens help, “Because the petition does not present substantial information indicating that delisting the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse may be warranted, we are not initiating a status review of this species in response to this petition. However, we ask that the public submit to us any new information that becomes available concerning the status of, or threats to, this species or its habitat at any time.”

        So if anyone has any info the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse be sure to contact the Federal Government immediately. The mice are counting on you.
