PATRIOT ACADEMY: Passing The Torch of Freedom

Everything that we, as Patriots, do is for the future of our country. We do this for the next generation. We pass on the principles of Freedom and Liberty, and we show them with our actions what needs to be done to secure these principles.
Patriot Academy teaches leadership to these young Patriots, and they do an outstanding job. But this training is not free. The young people raise the tuition money themselves, through hard work and donations.

As some of you may know Patriot Academy is a leadership boot camp for young people between 16 and 25. It uses the legislative process to teach leadership, communication, and other valuable skills. There are also lots of amazing speakers. There are reginal academies, one of which is in Idaho, that last three or four days. There is also a national academy for alumni in Texas that lasts for a whole week.
Patriot Academy (PA) is an incredible opportunity and it is priceless. If I could afford it I wouldn’t think twice about paying every penny of the PA tuition. It would be money well spent.
Going to PA is high on my list of the best decisions I have ever made. I met so many wonderful people and made memories that will last a life time. But more importantly I learned a lot and gained useful experience.
During PA was probably one of the first times I really got to hear two sides of an argument and dig deep to decide where I stood. Hearing the opposing viewpoints enabled me to question a belief I had always taken for granted – we should have legislative term limits. Ultimately I came to understand both sides of the argument and now can better defend my own stance.
The process of writing, arguing, and voting on my bill gave me new insight into the art of communicating. In addition, Mr. Green gave a helpful talk on communication. I have begun to be more aware of the importance of not just saying but communicating my message. I still have a lot to learn and need more practice before I will be a truly effective communicator (that’s why I am going back!) but I am on my way.
The time we spent in session reviewing and voting on a plethora of bills taught me an important lesson. When voting on anything there is more to consider than the mere purpose of a bill. The purpose may be to protect people but it may reduce valuable freedoms. We must always analyze the results of a decision because most often there are pros and cons on both sides.
Patriot Academy is not meant to make us into legislators. It uses the legislative system to teach us valuable skills and lessons that will make us good leaders no matter what career we pursue. In fact we are encouraged to live and work in the private sector before going into politics if that is something we want to do. It is important to gain real world experience before we try to lead and represent others in civil government. We cannot represent them if we don’t know what they are going through.
But in order to go to Patriot Academy and to continue learning we have to pay for tuition. As I said it is a priceless opportunity and money well spent but most of us are going to school or saving for the future so we only have so much money. If you want to play a part in raising up the next generation of leaders, here is a good opportunity. I have set up a GoFundMe page for the handful of young people from here in North Idaho, whether you can give $5, $10, $20, or more anything will help and we would be so thankful for it.
The National academy in Texas costs $775-$975 depending on how soon you pay for it and the regional academy in Idaho costs $345 – $445.
