Vetting Ted Cruz – Dan Lyman
Ted Cruz has been a luminescent beacon of hope for conservatives and libertarians since he stepped into the political spotlight in 2012. The freshman senator quickly cemented his reputation as a steel-spined, anti-Establishment maverick, inspiring evocative street art like Sabo’s infamous ‘Blacklisted and Loving It’ piece, or Cruz as the ‘Mockingjay’ – the iconic rebellious heroine of the Hunger Games series.
Cruz’s meteoric rise to fame has been no small feat, as he has taken a serious beating while passing through the most vicious of anti-conservative, anti-Christian media gauntlets and smear campaigns. The adoring, dedicated faithfulness of Tea Partiers, Constitutionalists, and Evangelicals has carried the heavily-laureled ex-litigator to the head of the pack of GOP presidential hopefuls.
As with all who aspire to take the reigns of the United States of America, our candidates must be properly vetted. Even in a crowded Republican field, contenders truly capable of taking on the financial mountain behind Monica Lewinsky’s ex-boyfriend’s wife are scarce. In recent weeks, Cruz has elevated himself from ‘little chance’ to ‘viable,’ and this is why it’s time to dig deep below his near-perfect Conservative Review score of 97%.
There are legitimate concerns that Cruz will need to address, for those of us who patrol the murkiest depths of the four-dimensional political battlefield; we’ve been burned far too many times to not do our homework.
Firstly – Heidi Cruz, his wife, was a member of the hard-left, globalist think tank – the Council On Foreign Relations (CFR). She was part of a task force that produced a report ominously entitled ‘Building a North American Community’ that clearly advocated for the advancement of the North American Union agenda. She has stated that her input was purely economic and pro-private sector in nature. Additionally, Mrs. Cruz has served as an investment banker for Merrill Lynch and J.P. Morgan, and later as Vice President at the ‘Great Vampire Squid,’ Goldman Sachs – the most powerful banking house in the world. All three entities hold founding corporate memberships in the CFR. Independent journalist, Derrick Broze, was able to interview Ted about his wife’s connection to the CFR on camera in 2012.
To be fair, Cruz has been documented as referring to the CFR as a “a pernicious nest of snakes… working to undermine our sovereignty.”
Mrs. Cruz is not Ted’s only direct link to the CFR. He has selected military interventionist and high-ranking CFR member, Elliott Abrams, as his foreign policy advisor – a huge disappointment for war-weary Americans who desire a return to a domestically-focused role for our armed forces. Abrams was indicted by a special prosecutor for his heavy involvement in the Iran-Contra affair, but later pardoned by George H.W. Bush. His war hawk pedigree is lengthy, spanning decades of involvement in neocon think tanks and policy positions, and most recently, he has aggressively propagandized for extensive military involvement in Iraq and Syria.
It should also be noted that Heidi Cruz and Elliott Abrams served simultaneously on the National Security Council under George W. Bush.
Ted Cruz has surrounded himself with neoconservatives – not a good sign. Infogram has neatly detailed the biographies and neocon bona fides of Abrams, Chad Sweet (campaign chairman), Victoria Coates (national security advisor), James Woolsey (foreign policy advisor), and John Bolton (foreign policy advisor).

There’s a lot about Ted Cruz that should worry constitutionalists considering voting for the senator in the presidential election of 2016… The information disclosed in these revelations could trouble many constitutionalists otherwise keen on the senator and who rely on him to restore the rule of law to the White House.
Cruz has shown weaknesses in some areas of legal immigration policy and the disastrous Trans-Pacific Partnership, but has redeemed himself to a degree by reversing his initial stances on both.
While Cruz’s overall immigration policy is excellent in form and prospective function, he originally supported upping the issuance of H1B foreign worker’s visas from 65,000 to 325,000 annually. He has since reformed that position, calling for 6 month moratorium on H1B visas. Troublingly, he has repeatedly sidestepped questions about how to mitigate the millions of illegal aliens already on American soil.ted cruz
Mercer – who also funnels cash into the Breitbart media family – was recently profiled alongside Cruz by the New York Times: “The two men share a passion for unbridled markets, concerns about the Internal Revenue Service and a skeptical view of climate change.” Most free marketeers and conservatives would be proud to be described so.
There are undoubtedly other skeletons in Ted Cruz’s closet, but as far as big-name politicians go, he is pretty clean and pretty solid, and certainly qualified to take up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – after a thorough fumigation and exorcism.
