Covid-19: Unintended Benefits in Education

Here is your chance to take control of your child's education.

Covid-19: Unintended Benefits in Education

The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.
~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy

by Shari Dovale

We are several weeks into the world’s response to Covid-19. Throughout the United States, most states have issued stay-at-home orders, including the recommended closure of schools.

Millions of people are looking at the pandemic stay-at-home orders as an opportunity to better their children’s education. They do not see this as a matter of inconvenience. They see it as an obligation for parents and guardians.

For the informed parent, this situation does not present a problem. They have already been wondering why their children are enrolled in public school in the first place! They are taking this opportunity to restore their family’s values into their children’s education.

Remember, it is the parent’s responsibility, and the parent’s choice!

Common Core

How many parents are way too frustrated trying to keep up with the nonsense teaching of Common Core Math? States are already trying to find ways out of these mandates. Here is your chance to go old school and teach math the way it should be taught!

Here is an example of how a simple math problem that you could solve in 2 steps is taught in 108 steps for Common Core: 4th Grade Common Core Math Problem Takes 108 Steps to Complete

Let’s stop this insanity while we have the chance!

Social Studies or Civics?

Social Studies is the brainchild of the Department of Education and the National Education Association. Combining the multiple topics of study, such as humanities, history, geography and political and social sciences. This took the place of full courses of study, including civics and government.

Social justice rose in importance while civics and government were relegated to the second string.

These changes have had a profound impact on our children, as they are graduating from high school without the requisite knowledge of what it means to be an active and good citizen. They do not understand how our country was founded and why the Founder’s felt the way that they did.

Today’s youth cannot discern what role government should have in their lives and, therefore, are forced to roll over and accept what they do not understand. Could this have been the plan all along?

Now is the time for parents to correct that major malfunction! Teach your children the history of this country. Make them read the founding documents. If you do not feel comfortable teaching the US Constitution, or your state constitution, enroll them in a course online. It is vital to the well-being of our future leaders to understand these basics of good citizenship.

Let’s not forget to start the day with the Pledge of Allegiance or the Star Spangled Banner. Patriotism is not a bad word.

Cursive Writing

Penmanship is another art lost to the newfangled technology in the education system. More and more schools are removing this part of their curriculum in favor of keyboarding skills. There is so much more to learning the art of cursive writing.

Importance of Cursive

Some may wonder why students should learn to write in cursive in the age of tablets and iPhones.  Won’t everyone just be typing and dictating in the future?  While electronic devices have added an element of convenience to the writing process, evidence is mounting that putting pen to paper has benefits that typing cannot replace.  Researchers have found ties between writing by hand and everything from language skills to memory to critical thinking.

.Yet many fail to recognize the value of cursive.  The authors of the Common Core, regarding old-fashioned writing as antiquated in the modern age, leave little time for handwriting instruction, filling students’ and teachers’ time with other substantive subjects.

Sexualization of Children

Parents are becoming increasingly frustrated with current Sex Education curriculum taught to their children. They want to have a say in when their child learns about sexuality. They feel that their views are not respected, and they are left with no choices or options.

The government should not force Americans to affirm politically correct and scientifically inaccurate views on sexual matters. Children as young as five have been taught to view themselves as “sexual beings.”

The forced school closures have given these parents the freedom to stop the madness of taking a child’s innocence away from them. Bringing the children back to values guided by parents is one of the major benefits of this “pandemic”.

GOD

The schools are generally calling these mandatory school closures “Act of God” days so the days will not be made up at a later time, as weather closures would be.

However, does that not go against the Freedom from Religion doctrine of keeping God out of the schools? It is time for God to return!

Here is the parent’s chance to put God back into their child’s education. Teach them to begin the day with a prayer. Let them read the old testament stories. There are many ways to allow God back into your child’s school life. There are no teachers, principal’s or school board trustees to tell you that it is not allowed.

This is not a partisan issue, as there are many people on both sides of the political aisle that have questions and concerns about what is effecting their children. For those people, they are taking this time to decide how they want their children’s future learning to move forward.

Here is your chance to take control of your child’s education.

For those that need help with topics they are uncomfortable with, there are co-ops where parents join forces to give all the children a well-rounded education.

Too many people agree that the current belief is that the children are not getting the best education possible in government-funded public schools.
