We hear grim news of all the problems our State and nation face and the seemingly insurmountable obstacles to good things happening. We are led to believe we are powerless and without hope in the face of scandals and corruption in high places, but it is simply not true. Yellow journalism, now known as fake news, lulls us into complacency and apathy. Certainly, citizen inactivity is one of the causes of today’s problems because we have adopted an incorrect perspective. We mistakenly see government as a “They,” a “Them.”

We the People are the origin of government. All political power is inherent in the people. Government is instituted for their equal protection and benefit, …” says the Idaho Constitution. We can return our State to the principles it was founded upon by exercising vigilance and becoming active. There is a famous quote from Gandhi, Be the change you want to see in the world.” But that is not the full quote. The full quote gives a greater picture of our duties as We the People: It is not enough to be the change you want to see in the world, you must take action.”

Idaho is the Gem State and has awesome potential and a great purpose to fulfill. We can build a better Idaho, together, by remembering where the foundations of political power come from, what the limitations are to the exercise of that power and by following the principles of good government.

I am running to be an Idaho legislator to make those principles the focus of lawmaking. And I am not alone! There is a growing number of people taking action, running for political office, and aspiring to move our state in a great direction. Special interests and a small handful of the governing elite have driven our State in the wrong direction for too long. We the People deserve better.

My fellow liberty legislators and I, seek to be the sea change bringing a tide of responsible leadership that puts Gandhi’s quote into full effect. Idaho prides itself on having a citizen legislature. I am one of Idaho’s citizens who is seeking to serve in the legislature and become part of the change that is greatly needed. And I am inspired by the record number of liberty candidates seeking to join the legislature and elsewhere in public office, as the wave of liberty begins to crest…

Living in rural North Idaho, Hari Heath has been an Idaho logger for a third of a century. Specializing in salvage logging, which makes useful products from forest mortality, and Stand Improvement Forestry, creating a more healthy and productive forest through active management with a focus on what we leave.

Hari was a co-founder of the Small Loggers Council, that was originally formed to restart the Forest Service’s small salvage program, which remains non-operational today. The Small Loggers Council was successful in getting a trial program through the Idaho Legislature for the now permanent Direct Sale program with the Idaho Department of Lands. Dead and dying timber can now contribute to the Idaho Endowments, mostly education, and provide jobs and forest resources for industry.

Co-author of the 2006 Idaho Judicial Accountability Act, an initiative which failed to get enough signatures to make it on the ballot. This very detailed citizen legislation would create a permanent Citizen’s Grand Jury to review judicial misconduct allegations. Designed to both protect judges and prosecutors from frivolous claims and to provide the people of Idaho with a forum to genuinely hear cases of judicial abuse of the law, this Act would send cases to a trial if the claims were found to have merit. This Act would remove judges from the bench after three convictions as well as reduced retirement benefits for those who lost at trial. A judiciary held accountable to the law would become a strong check and balance to error and corruption in the other branches of government.

As a student of the many things wrong with government and related realms, Hari Heath started The Brushfire News in 1997. This small self-publishing effort as an alternative press was soon merged into the Idaho Observer, where Hari was a staff writer for a decade. Exposing corruption, analyzing social phenomenon of the day with unique perspectives and providing solutions and support for positive activism were the mainstay for the Idaho Observer.

A woodworker and primitive skills instructor, Hari has taught bowmaking, primitive forge, paddle carving, native paddlecraft design and, soon, the diddley bow a primitive musical instrument. As part of a great community of primitive artisans and enthusiasts for antiquities from the stone age forward, Hari has taught at the Rabbitstick Rendezvous (www.rabbitstick.com) and Between the Rivers Gathering (www.betweentheriversgathering.com).

Hari lives with his wife Judith in Santa and seeks to be active in Idaho’s great future because he is a grandparent!

  1. Hari is running for Paulette Jordan’s seat, –a comitted donkey-voter. Hari’s opponent, “Republican” Bill Goesling has a charming photo on his FB page with Speaker Bedke and believes he can do much more for public education in addition to the $1 million increase for the past 4 years in a row. He subbed in for Representative Troy, also donkey-voter for a practice run. The company Goesling keeps and his get-a-long philosophy will fit right in with the current establishment cabal. Clear choice for District 5 in this race -Hari, we need you to win this race to help restore common sense to Boise!
