Congress to Colleges the Buck Stops Here

Rep. Hunter, Duncan D. (R-CA-50) introduced H.R. 483 To amend title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 officially known as to prohibit the provision of funds under such title to institutions of higher education that violate the immigration laws, and for other purposes. throughout the liberal circles the bill is becoming known as the No Funding for Sanctuary Campuses Act. The bill has the support of 17 cosponsors in the House.
The bill would prohibit federal funding for student loans and grants to colleges and universities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities by cutting off all funding from Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
Higher learning institutions which prevent individual’s from providing information about their immigration status, blocks compliance for information from the DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security), provides an illegal immigrant with benefits equal to citizens, restricting DHS from recruiting on campus as any other business, and prohibits its staff from reporting an illegal immigrant would have their Direct Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, and Pell Grant programs among others funding programs would be cut off. There are 28 liberal institutions declaring themselves to be sanctuary campuses.
Opinions differ when the question of whether to stop funding to these institutions which refuse to follow federal law. Those in favor say Colleges and universities that refuse to comply with immigration law should have their federal funding for student loans and grants cut off. If the people who live in that state support that policy, they can pick up that tab.

Administrators should be held accountable for violating federal and state laws. Why should monies from taxpaying Americans fund anything that is illegal, which obviously includes anyone in this country illegally, Including administrators salaries when they break federal and state laws. Either we have borders, or we don’t. It’s not complicated”, or Bobby’s “If campuses are refusing to abide by federal law, they shouldn’t receive federal funding.
Opinions against it argue It would be incredibly spiteful to deny institutions of higher education access to loans that enable more students to further themselves academically simply because the school doesn’t want to help deport unauthorized immigrants. John said “It is not universities job to help deport people, it is to educate the next generation”, and Gabrielle’s opinion is “Sanctuary campuses make it safer for vulnerable people to report crime, not commit it.” or Brandon “Universities cannot give any sort of aid to illegal immigrants. Cutting funding to an institution means closing the door of opportunity to citizens and legal residents who cannot afford to pay on their own. Cutting funding will also put a halt on research from science to other academics that can change the world”.
