Idaho Republicans Reaffirm Support for Constitutional Money

I am proud to report that the Idaho Republican Party has reaffirmed their support for gold and silver constitutional tender at their party’s winter meeting in Boise this month. The following is a verbatim copy of the action:

Idaho Republican Party Document

Resolution 2017-3

Resolution Supporting Constitutional Sound Money

WHEREAS, the Idaho Republican Platform calls for gold and silver currency; and

WHEREAS, Article 1, Section 10 (1) of the U.S. Constitution states that “No state shall… make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debt;” and

WHEREAS, Article 1, Section 3 of the Idaho Constitution states that “…the Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land;” and

WHEREAS, the Federal Reserve has devalued the US Dollar by 99% since the abandonment of gold and silver convertibility; and

WHEREAS, the ongoing exponential growth in the monetary base calls for urgent and timely action to protect the citizens of Idaho from the further debasement of our legal tender; and

WHEREAS, this official and purposeful debasement is in blatant violation of the spirit of the US Constitution, which gives no such authorization to reduce the intrinsic value of our earnings, savings, investments, and legal tender; and WHEREAS, the silver producing state of Idaho would benefit from this action; and

WHEREAS, Idaho would attract new businesses, depositors, and investors from around the world that recognize the value of a legalized sound currency;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Idaho Republican Party urges and petitions the State of Idaho to pass legislation to authorize and encourage the use of silver and gold as legal tender for debts, contracts, salaries, and other obligations by state and local governments, citizens, and businesses;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all Idaho government entities shall be authorized and encouraged to invest in gold and silver instruments.

Since 2008 the Republican Party has included in its party platform, a plank in support of sound currency. For years, the fiat money, big government, and Federal Reserve Bank advocates in the party have tried to eliminate this plank at every Republican Party state convention. Those moves have been overwhelmingly defeated. Yet, our State Senator Shawn Keough has gone out of her way to specifically denounce this constitutional sound money plank and has refused to support the Republican Platform in its entirety since 2008, because of her opposition to honest money and fear to oppose the establishment Republicans.

This elitist position is in direct opposition to her local Republican Central Committee, which has repeatedly passed constitutional sound money resolutions over the past eight years. In fact, the platform plank, copied below, originated in Senator Keough’s local Republican Central Committee. She no longer attends the meetings. It is time for Legislative District 1 voters to wake up and vote for a candidate that believes in the constitution and the Idaho Republican Party, such as, Danielle Ahrens, who just announced her candidacy for State Senate, in opposition to Shawn Keough. Danielle is also Chair of the Legislative District 1 Republican Central Committee and a dedicated party supporter. She is no RINO.

The following is a verbatim copy Sound Currency plank passed in 2008:

Idaho Republican Party Platform

Sec. 4 Sound Currency

We recognize the failure of the Federal Reserve System to maintain a sound U.S. dollar and the danger of mercantile banks controlling the issuance of our currency. We believe the Federal Reserve Bank should be abolished and the issuing power restored to the people with the stipulation that the U.S. dollar be backed by gold and silver. We believe Idahoans need to protect their savings from the ravages of inflation, which is hidden taxation, and encourage citizens to participate in a systematic acquisition of precious metals which represent real value as opposed to paper currencies.

1 Comment on Idaho Republicans Reaffirm Support for Constitutional Money

  1. So…A person could take their $ 10.00 silver certificate into a bank and get a $10.00 silver coin (About the size of a 50 cent piece nowadays) ? Seen As a currency issued in direct competition with the Federal Reserve note, It’s an attractive idea.Kennedy tried this with his “US Note”- currency issued directly from the US treasury Dept. The US Note was scrapped immediately after his death………A stable currency was one of the goals in founding the Federal Govt. Up till 1789 we had a crazy quilt of 13 state issued currencies, and the arrival of the US Dollar was a boon to trade.Of course nowadays the situation is reversed, with Federal Reserve notes become an artificially supported scrip.Withal, there are many ramifications to this idea.
