How Can A Voter Make An Educated Decision?

How Can A Voter Make An Educated Decision?

I was at the hearing regarding the LPOSD illegal levy lawsuit. I found the photo on the Bee website today,  next to the article, “Ruling Pending in Levy Lawsuit” a bit ironic. The photo features a pro levy billboard stating, “Make an educated decision.” How is a voter to make an educated decision when they are not provided with the law mandated information required? LPOSD was mandated by law to provide the amount per $100,000.00 of property valuation that the property tax owner would be paying if the levy was passed.

The LPOSD’s attorney’s repeated numerous times that a vote could not be nullified as the vote was the “will of the people”. How can one assume the “will of the people” when the people were not properly informed of what the levy would cost them?

Another assertion made in the hearing yesterday was that to nullify the levy vote would nullify all the other issues the voters voted on. Did this firm not do their due diligence? The levy was the only issue on that ballot.

I am dismayed at the stance LPOSD is taking in this issue. As a property owning tax payer, all I  want is for LPOSD to admit their error and fix it. The fact that LPOSD is reluctant to do this and would rather rack up billable hours for their attorney’s than rectify their mistake is extremely disappointing and a terrible example for the students in this community.
