A Low-Cost Method To Differentiate Hemp From Marijuana

Texas Implements A Low-Cost Method To
Differentiate Hemp From Marijuana

The government is not God. Those elected are our servants. They are to work out our will, to the best of their ability. We need newly elected representatives who understand that; especially in the Idaho State Senate.

Unlike Idaho’s allegedly conservative governor Brad Little, last month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law a bill to legalize hemp and hemp-derived products, including CBD oil. Legalizing hemp farming brings farming freedom and significant revenue to Texas. Texas Governor Abbott appears to understand that 48 states have some form of cannabis liberalization and that 48 other States law enforcement and public prosecutors have figured out how to continue to enforce marijuana prohibition while allowing access to hemp and CBD oil.

Let me be clear, the racists’ marijuana prohibition is over in these United States and here in the great State of Idaho. It is only if we will have to wait until this authoritarian Republican boomer generation in Idaho retires or dies off to get rid of it.

As in Idaho, Texas prosecutors and some law enforcement fell on the floor crying that their war against American [Bard Note:  There is no war against drugs, many people support a war against American drug users] could not be continued to be fought if hemp is decriminalized. Families destroyed and property stolen by the government over the consensual adult use of the cannabis plant. The law and order crowd demand this must continue or the society will end.

Like I testified before the Senate State Affairs committee this year, 48 other states have figured out how to differentiate between cannabis with over 0.3% and under 0.3%. No surprise Texas has figured out a new, lower-cost way to test cannabis to separate between still illegal marijuana and legal hemp.

Now, after meeting last week with officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, which worked to distinguish hemp from marijuana when the U.S. farm bill legalized hemp in 2018 on the federal level, the Texas Forensic Science Commission’s general counsel said local officials are looking to use the same approach.

For six months, [the DEA] figured out what they needed to do to provide the best, most taxpayer-efficient, economical way of distinguishing between hemp and marijuana,” Lynn Garcia told The Texas Tribune.

The federal agency’s approach is to do an initial series of tests that indicate if a substance has above or below a 1.0% THC concentration.

Garcia said the machines in place now would also likely need to be replaced more often with this type of testing. Still, she expects a need for fewer new instruments at the onset, and these machines cost significantly less — about $75,000 each.

The tests the DEA uses would also take much less time, about an hour as opposed to two days, putting less of an additional strain on the crime labs, Garcia said.

Thus within 6 months of removing cannabis with less than 0.3% THC which cannot get you intoxicated called hemp from the Schedule 1 drug list, the DEA has figured out a lower-cost way to differentiate marijuana from hemp. Their plan is effective to test if the cannabis has over 1% THC and then go from there.

According to several law enforcement lobbying groups, somehow law enforcement in 48 other States are more creative and smarter than law enforcement in Idaho. They can figure out how to serve the people and keep us safe from that diabolical “marijuana.” I think we need a new generation of Republican elected leaders who have not bought into this authoritarian way of “controlling” an allegedly free people.
