Trump Signs Disaster Declaration for Idaho
On May 18, 2017, President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Disaster Declaration for eight northern and north-central Idaho counties.
Federal funding is available to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Shoshone, and Valley Counties.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
Timothy B. Manner has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Manner said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
The declaration incident period is March 6, 2017 – March 28, 2017 and induces the release of Federal funds to help communities recover from the flooding, landslide, and mudslide damages that happened within the incident period. It is estimated that the eight counties exceeded $9.6 million in damages.
The Federal funding being issued will be utilized to repair disaster-damaged public infrastructures. This funding can also be utilized for mitigation efforts to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property within the eight counties. These funds do not cover private property.
