Dems Introduce Bill Restricting Trump’s Use of Nuclear Weapons

Lawmakers introduced a bill in both houses of Congress Tuesday that would prevent the president from launching a nuclear first strike without a congressional declaration of war. A policy that was long debated — but never seriously pursued — during the Obama administration has now become anything other than abstract after the election of Donald Trump.

Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) introduced legislation meant to pry the nuclear football out of the president’s hands.

“Nuclear war poses the gravest risk to human survival. Yet, President Trump has suggested that he would consider launching nuclear attacks against terrorists,” Markey said in a statement. “Unfortunately, by maintaining the option of using nuclear weapons first in a conflict, U.S. policy provides him with that power. In a crisis with another nuclear-armed country, this policy drastically increases the risk of unintended nuclear escalation.”

Lieu, who has a paper sign reading, “Alternative Fact Free Zone” outside his office, took aim at Trump’s ignorance. “It is a frightening reality that the U.S. now has a Commander-in-Chief who has demonstrated ignorance of the nuclear triad, stated his desire to be ‘unpredictable’ with nuclear weapons, and as President-elect was making sweeping statements about U.S. nuclear policy over Twitter. Congress must act to preserve global stability by restricting the circumstances under which the U.S. would be the first nation to use a nuclear weapon.”

This isn’t the first mention of such legislation — the idea of it has been mentioned on and off for years, advocated by groups such as the Global Security Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. At a January event at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said he is “confident we can deter and defend ourselves and our allies against non-nuclear threats through other means,” adding that he “strongly believes” that “deterring and if necessary retaliating against a nuclear attack should be the sole purpose for the U.S. nuclear arsenal.”

  1. I agree with Joel. These Democrats/Globalists STILL think they are in charge. LOL They have become so accustomed to getting everything they want in their Fabien Socialist destruction agenda to make America a Communist Nation, that they still think they have the final say.
The Globalists just need to move to some Muslim nation where they would feel more comfortable. As of right now, America is finally back in the hands of an American, instead of a Globalist. He won with God’s help, so they are going to have to get used to taking the backseat on every issue like all of us have been for the past several decades. How awesome that they can write all the legislation they want and we won’t pass it now that we have control of the House and Senate. Sure, there are still lots of RINOs in both branches, but if they are smart and ever want to be re-elected, they had better side with Trump or we will oust them asap in the next election.
The Globalist politicians can get used to the taste of dirt for a change, because it’s our turn to lead again, and we have never liked their Agenda 21/30 supporting policies and illegal procedures they have used to bring America under Globalist’s tyrannical rule.
Trump is sharp- genius IQ apparently. He knows the only way to deal with terrorists is to show strength. He’s not some idiot like they want him to be, nor is he trigger happy. So they are just fear mongering to try to rouse more of Soros’s and Bill Gates’ paid protestors.
The truth is that more than half of the nation totally supports and already loves Trump. It’s just a shame that the opposition party IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA, and therefore is the continuous mouthpiece at all times.
Again, Trump needs his own channel that would be on tv, not online, so the masses of people swayed by lies from the mainstream could also hear the whole truth in one sitting from Trump’s own channel- without the constant backtalk from the media.

  2. This is one of the most rediculous attempts to strip power from the POTUS.What makes them so ballsy to think they can just interfere with procedures like this one? If the President of the United States doesn’t have the final say on when or how nuclear weapons are launched against an enemy, then who would? Congress? The Senate? They can’t even agree on what to have for lunch, without three months of comittee hearings…
