I support our children and educators and agree that renovation and replacement of buildings are necessary to insure the safety of our children.
Because passage of this plant levy would double my school tax I perused the Facility Planning Committee Report and read “A committee of 13 met five times during the months of Nov/Dec and each meeting lasted approx. 1 ½ hrs. They concluded that this proposal would need $55 million. They obtained no bids to substantiate this amount. (LPOSD is revamping their website at this time, you can go to lposdlevy.com for a copy of the report and confirm for yourself.)
What concerns me is the rush to levy this much money for five major projects and many remodels without more time invested into in-depth planning. Why not one school at a time?
Everyone will be affected by the tax increase: property owners, renters, fixed-income individuals and businesses. There are literally thousands of property owners who are struggling to pay their property taxes now. If these additional taxes are added to our bills, will we be taxed out of our homes?
This levy is Phase One of two or three which are planned after the next 6 years. Remember: this will be in addition to the $15 million supplemental levy (now in effect) which you will be asked to renew permanently with another vote this March.
Support responsible use of taxpayer’s money. This is Not it!
Vote AGAINST August 30 School Plant Levy.
As long as we remain silent or ignorant, we allow small groups to carry out their agendas.
As Mark Twain famously said, “It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled.”
