The Silence Is Deafening

These last four Sundays I have been attending a friendly christian community church. The pastor delivers a bible based sermon, designed to encourage and inform the congregation. Other community christian churches I have attended over the years were very similar to this one concerning the pastors’s messages.

The significant similarity of all these pastor’s messages is their lack of mentioning the evil that stalks the land. This is not an issue of political activism within the church, it is simply the failure of biblically speaking out against the evil that is literally destroying the national Christian concepts and influence of our nation.

For example, the week before the last Sunday I attended the aforementioned church, the Democrat governor and legislators of New York had passed a law allowing the murder of unborn children right up to the time of their birth. Thinking they had settled the abortion issue once and for all, the smiling governor and legislators stood and applauded at the signing ceremony.

This event was something that could have come out of the horror chamber of the Nazis, as they celebrated the mass murders of the jews, known as “The Final Solution To The Jewish Problem”

With this horrific event taking place the proceeding week before the Sunday service, one would think a pastor would make some reference to this evil that was well reported by the conservative media. Not a word, not a peep.

Speaking out would not have required the pastor to enter the political arena, he would not have had to name political parties or politicians, but could have simply stated that a state and it’s politicians had passed a bill to murder the unborn children of this nation, his nation. (“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born Jer 1:5″)

This lack of speaking out from the “pulpit” in condemning evil is pretty much common among the fundamental bible believing churches across the nation.

Not only are the pulpits silent on the subject of abortion, but they are also silent on the twisted perverse agenda of the LGBT community, and the gross disgusting product of the entertainment industry.

These issues are not primarily political (although there are political ramifications), but deal with the morals of a Christian nation for which the churches are supposed to be the nation’s moral compass.

This deafening silence from the pulpit is especially critical for the youth who attend both church and public school. They hear from their teachers (a person of authority) that the morals of the degenerate godless culture is the proper “way to go”, and then attend church on Sunday and listen to the pastor (a person of authority) who is completely silent on refuting the godless teachings they have been subjected to during the week.

I believe that this deafening silence is primarily the result of the two following attitudes and policies:

1.  The pastor and church deacons want to have a place of gathering that is completely isolated from the world’s troubles, a place of peace to hear only the positive aspects of the gospel. They will avoid any activity that could possibly bring disruption to their church.

This attitude could have been appropriate sixty years ago, but the moral situation in our nation is declining so rapidly, that the luxury of isolating the church from the reality of our declining morality is no longer an option.

2. The fear of being targeted by the social media, news media, and the LGBT if the pastor spoke out against the unbiblical degenerate sex practices of the our culture. There is also the fear of being targeted by the social media and news media if the pastor spoke out against the barbaric practice of abortion.

For the Christian pulpits of this nation to remain silent in condemning the expanding godless evil that is sweeping this nation, contributes to the attitude of the congregation accepting the evil, “if the pastor is not concerned why should I be”.

CONCLUSION
The concerns I have expressed concerning the silence of the nation’s pastors is not a plea to drop the preaching of Christ’s salvation, but to pick up the additional task of recognizing and condemning the godless evil force that is in the process of destroying this nation.

The question that remains is: how bad, how outrageous, does it have to get, before the pulpits across the land begin speaking out? If these churches believe that these anti-Christian issues will not impact their church, they are mistaken. If this “deafening silence” continues, the christian church may end up in the same situation as described by Martin Niemöller who was a German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor, who expressed the following:

  First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

    Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

    Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

    Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
