Kootenai County, ID:  Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office offers class on “Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events.”


On August 27, 2016, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office will be offering a free 2 hour Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events class at our Volunteer Search & Rescue (VSAR) building for any Kootenai County citizen that would like to attend.


This class will consist of information on Disaster Response Psychology, how to increase your chances of surviving an Active Shooter Event (Avoid, Deny, and Defend), several past Active Shooter cases, and case study of the Active Shooter Virginia Tech case.


Date: Saturday August 27, 2016

Time: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location:  VSAR Building 10865 N. Ramsey Road  –  Hayden, Idaho 83835


Class seating is by Reservation Only and limited to the first (50) Kootenai County citizens. To reserve a seat, please call Community Service Officer Gary Shults at 208-446-2121.

  1. This was an excellent class if you want to learn some tips that might help save you in an active shooter scenario. While the sheriff dept supports your right to self-defense, this class isn’t about armed defense tactics. It is addressed more to those that might be in this situation while unarmed.

    The 911 terrorists changed the equation by hijacking planes for suicide missions as opposed to the previous hijackers looking for money or political asylum. The latest string of active shooter situations has done the same in that they typically are indiscriminately shooting anyone they see as opposed to specific targets. Also, most of these shooters are expecting to die, just as the terrorists were.

    If you regularly carry then you’ve probably already attended many of the fine defensive firearm classes available in the area. Even so, this was a good refresher course on being prepared and being aware.
