NJ Democrat Fired for Not Towing the Party Line

New Jersey State Sen. Joseph Lagana is the latest victim in the government’s war to control everything. Lagana was fired from the Senate Judiciary Committee over his refusal to support the Senate leadership on legislation to end religious exemptions for childhood vaccines. Additionally, the New Jersey Globe has learned that Lagana has lost his leadership money – additional funds to supplement his annual staff allowance.
This public representative of the people is a Democrat and normally votes with his party. However, in the recent issue on vaccine exemptions, his conscience got the better of him, and he could be heard explaining that he wouldn’t vote yes because it is “just too personal for me.”
New Jersey Democrats are in a battle to end exemptions from childhood vaccinations on the basis of religious beliefs. The battle is with the people of New Jersey.
On December 17, 2019, The House Assembly passed the controversial change, but later, Senate cosponsor Joseph Vitale said he was one vote short of passing the bill in the Senate, and Senate President Stephen Sweeney ended the session without bringing up the measure.
Hundreds of protesters filled the Statehouse halls when the Senate abandoned the effort. Sweeney was not deterred by the deafening crowds.
“They can cheer all they want,” he said of the hundreds of people gathered to protest the exemption effort, who erupted in cheers when he called off the vote. “This bill is going to get done. This is good public policy. There is no science to back up what these people are saying.”
Lagana has been replaced on the Judiciary Committee by State Sen. Brian Stack. The senate president had dropped Stack last year after the Hudson County Democrat sided with Gov. Phil Murphy on legislative redistricting.
I guess this means that Senator Stack has learned his lesson about opposing Leadership. You do not vote your conscience, and you do not vote the way the people want you to vote. This is all about Leadership controlling everything.
It sounds quite a bit like what Rep. Matt Shea is dealing with in Washington State. He also has been removed from his committees and caucus for not towing the line. The biggest difference is that Rep. Shea is a Republican.
The State minority leader, J.T. Wilcox, has been working with the Democrat Speaker to oust Shea through accusations and innuendo, but shy of actual proof.
We can see that this is a nationwide problem, and the people’s voices are no longer important. These elected officials are concerned with keeping power, not representing the people.
