Bonner County October Surprise
by Shari Dovale
For everyone that is still celebrating the departure of Comrade Omodt, there are a few updates to which you should pay attention.
Republican candidate Ron Korn has been appointed to fill out the remainder of Omodt’s term.
Korn must still win the General Election in November to remain in office past January.
The general election will be held on Nov. 5, and Korn will face Glenn Lefebvre, who is running as an independent.
Korn’s first business meeting was held the day after his swearing in ceremony. The meeting went smoothly with the new Chair, Asia Williams, at the helm. The public was allowed to comment on their issues throughout the meeting.
Williams had 2 particular items on the agenda:
The first item shows that she was requesting that the standing rules which Comrade Omodt would drone on about each week, and were repeatedly ignored in practice, be removed from the agenda.
It seemed a reasonable request as neither Williams or Bradshaw followed, or repeated, those rules when they ran the meetings.
Williams stepped down from the chair to make the motion, however, neither of the new board’s CommissionMEN seconded the motion. The motion died, so therefore, there could be no discussion on these items, and the people have no idea as to the men’s thinking on this issue.
The second questionable action was when Williams attempted to have the Google Data-collecting signup sheet removed for the people participating online.
The entire short scenario was repeated with these CommissionMEN, including a refusal to second the motion. The motion died and there was no discussion at all allowed.
This is concerning as this was a major campaign issue for Korn, as you can see in the video below.
With each commissioner in the past, I have attempted to give some latitude as they got their feet wet. Not a long honeymoon period, as they say, but consideration that maybe they just did not understand what they actually made happen.
In the same idea, I tried to contact Korn the afternoon of the meeting, and ask him to help me understand why he did not second the motions, even for discussion.
He did not respond on Tuesday.
He did not respond on Wednesday.
He did not respond on Thursday.
He has yet to respond to us with any answers.
As a reminder, Korn is still running for election of this seat in November. This appointment is strictly to fill the remainder of the vacated term.
However, Korn is actively pursuing his personal agenda this week. He has sent an email to all department heads and elected officials stating that he wants to partially utilize the new county building, which costs the taxpayers millions of dollars, as a GYM for employees.
This, I am sure will generate a bit of discussion, as well as humorous memes. However, it does not seem to be fiscally responsible to waste a multi-million dollar building for an employee rec room, complete with ping pong table and foosball.

This is outrageous. Ping-pong, foosball, dart board….where is the wet bar and pool table?
It should be asked of him in person this weekend (5,6 October 2024) at the Panhandle Preparedness Expo…
