Acceptance Of Election Results

By Pete Ketcham

From the rhetoric on both sides of the Harris VS Trump presidential election, it does not look very promising that either side will accept the election results if they lose.

There will no doubt be numerous legal challenges and possible recounts in various states by the losing side. Also, there is the possibility of riots by the voters of the losing side.

The Democrat’s intense hatred of Trump makes it sociologically impossible for them to accept him as president, and they feel totally justified in doing what ever they can (whether legal or not) to prevent him from taking the presidential office.

From the past election fraud by the Democrats of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, the Republicans will be convinced that if the Democrat candidate wins, it was by fraud, and will initiate numerous legal challenges in various states.

Thus it appears that unless the winning candidate wins by a landslide, there will be no acceptance by the losing side, and because of the close race thus far, there seems little possibility of a landslide happening.

This acceptance issue also raises the question of Vice President Harris certifying the Electoral College vote if Trump wins. There is the possibility that Kamala Harris could refuse to formally certify the vote. This certification is in accordance with the 12th Amendment that states “The president of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates, and the votes shall then be counted,” This is a ceremonial duty that does not give the Vice President the power to reject any certified electoral votes, a procedure Pence properly followed in the 2020 election.

Conclusion

At this time the present election process has become very volatile as the candidates accuse each other of misrepresentations and lies, believing that their opponent cannot honestly win the election, but must cheat to win.

It is amazing and sad how totally divided we as a constitutional nation have become.
