Arson of Army Surplus in Sandpoint
What we know so far
by Staff
The Army Surplus store in Sandpoint, Idaho was burned to the ground on July 4th, about 10:15pm. Early reports suspected stray fireworks, possibly a bottle rocket or mortar.
The store owner is Cornel Rasor, current GOP candidate for State Representative for Idaho Seat 1B. He will be on the ballot in November.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the ATF determined the fire was an arson attack. Sandpoint PD announced that 50-year-old Jennifer Suzanne Meyer has been charged with Arson 1 for allegedly burning down Sandpoint’s Army Surplus Store.
After executing a search warrant at her listed residence, Sandpoint PD found $1,000 cash, $1,200 of dollars worth of silver, a 9mm gun, car titles, birth certificates, college transcripts, and passports, indicating that Meyer may have been intending to flee the country.
A search warrant has been served on a second location in Sandpoint, in relation to the arson case. The warrant is directed to a business near the burned location so it is possible that the search warrant is for camera footage of the night in question.
A preliminary hearing for Meyer was held on July 17th.
Meyer’s bail was set at $1 Million Dollars after it was determined she is a flight risk.
Many suspect that this arson was politically motivated, due to Rasor’s recent win during the election primary for Legislative District 1 Seat B.
The political motivations are being additionally fueled by the suspect’s connection to a Democrat candidate, Steven Johnson. The alleged arsonist, Jennifer Meyer, was living at the same residence that Steve Johnson (Democrat candidate for Bonner County Commissioner, District 1) has listed on his candidate filing paperwork. Meyer’s company Bonner Media LLC had the same address listed on their publicly available Secretary of State filings.
However, no motive has been confirmed by law enforcement.
Cornel Rasor is known for his biblical outlook on life and is certainly taking the high road in this case as well. Here is his response:
Idaho Tribune has done much of the reporting on this case, and we thank them.

My first impression, when I heard of the fiery attack against
the Army Surplus store, was the attack may be an act of hate
and domestic terror by radical Marxists for the election of
Cornel Rasor and for the conservative Christians of Sandpoint and
Bonner County, who elected Mr. Rasor. Did the accuse receive
training? Does the accuse belong to national and international
organizations? Should the accuse be charged for domestic
terrorism and for a hate crime? Are violent, radical Marxists
moving into the area to terrorize the local conservative Christian
population?
We live in very dark, evil and dangerous times.
The Steve Johnson address contains several rental rooms and cabins. It seems there are several people that live there from time to time.
It also contains several more llc’s with different people’s names. He owns a couple of them..looks like one is related to the rental part of the property..there’s several more though. Top dawg inspection is still active. Does that person still live there? It’s a little odd.
