After The Election

I wish to thank all of the East Bonner County Library District citizens who came out to vote for the East Bonner County Library Board of Trustee position. It is your participation that makes our constitutional republic work. Please continue to vote and encourage your friends and neighbors to vote in all elections. The greater the citizen participation in these elections, the fairer and more representative of the entire population the result will be!

I would specifically like to thank the over three thousand East Bonner County voters who supported my campaign. My goal was to have your voices heard regarding the future of our library system. It is my hope and prayer that that goal was accomplished by being your spokesperson in this election.

Also, I would like to thank the many, many volunteers who spent countless hours working on my campaign, helping their neighbors be politically engaged. It was your dedication and tireless efforts that truly gave a voice to those voters

Finally, as Ms. Shea begins her second six-year term as a Library Trustee, I hope she heeds the concerns raised by thousands of East Bonner County citizens regarding the unfettered accessibility of sexually-explicit books by minors, and their desire to have the Board institute reasonable, common-sense conditions on that accessibility. Ms. Shea said during our Candidate Forum that, if enough people expressed an interest in a Drag Queen Story Hour at the library, she could find a way to support it. I hope that she, and the other Board members feel that the nearly 3,200 citizens telling them that they want reasonable guidelines on the access minors have to these explicit books is “enough people expressing an interest” for the board to find a way to support their desires.

I wish Ms. Shea and the Board, along with the Library Director and the staff, the best of luck in their efforts to represent all the citizens of the East County Bonner County Library District, not just a select group.
