Greater Idaho on the Legislative Docket – What are the Pros and Cons?
We’re expanding our horizon: A new turn for True Idaho News is expanding the number of co-hosts on the TIN Podcast. Our purpose is to bring you perspectives from all corners of the state. In this episode of the TIN Podcast we are pleased to bring you Asia Williams, a County Commissioner from Bonner County.
In the first half of the show we learn why Asia ran for office, what she likes about northern Idaho, and why she came to Idaho in the first place.
In the second half of the show, True Idaho News editor Daniel Bobinski and Asia discuss progress on the effort to create a “Greater Idaho,” as well as some of the pros and cons. The push to create a Greater Idaho comes from counties in Eastern Oregon that wish to disassociate from Oregon and become part of Idaho. At present, counties consisting of more than 50% of the land-mass in Oregon have voted to leave Oregon and join Idaho. Interestingly, the issue is now on the docket in the Idaho legislature, with a House Joint Memorandum for Idaho’s legislature to establish “official” discussions with Oregon’s state legislature to explore the matter.
Daniel and Asia also discussed the Idaho Session website (www.idahosession.com) and how easy it is to use to find and learn about legislation making its way through the 2023 legislative session. Readers are strongly commended to follow legislation being proposed at the State House, and idahosession.com is a free and easy way to track it – including where it’s at in the process. Links are also provided so Idaho citizens can easily contact their legislators.
