Citizens File Tort Claim Against Governor Steve Bullock
On Wednesday afternoon a group of citizens from Powell County met in Butte Montana in front of the Mike Mansfield Federal Courthouse to file legal action against Montana Governor Steve Bullock.
In March of 2020, Governor Bullock issued a declaration and order that caused the Montana business economy to crash. That injury to the economic stability of Montana was exasperated by an additional order delivered by Governor Bullock in July demanding everyone in Montana wear a mask or face legal consequences.
The citizens in the action are using the Tort claim against Montana government. In the tort action, the federal court will be tasked to determine the constitutionality of the directive issued by Governor Bullock.
Tort law provides remedies to individuals who have suffered harm by the unreasonable acts of another. The law of tort is based on the idea that people are liable for the consequences of their actions.
The case will further reach into government actions starting with the authority usurped by local government officials down to local health boards which are appointed bodies at the local government level.
Similar cases have been filed in jurisdictions across the United States. The case filed in Butte Montana will be assigned action in the coming days and Redoubt News-Montana will be there to keep the people of Montana informed.
