Burnett – Giving KMC A Black Eye and Patients A Major Cause for Concern
Open Letter To Jon Ness, CEO Kootenai Medical Center:
Opinions are opinions but oaths are oaths. I am disgusted at the recent comments made by Dr. Robert Burnett, Director of Surgical Services, Kootenai Heart Health Center. While Burnett is certainly entitled to his own opinions based on his knowledge of medicine, so are Rep. Heather Scott and Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, based on their knowledge of law making and law enforcement. But Burnett put his bloated arrogance on full display as he blatantly violated, in writing, the Hippocratic Oath he took to graduate medical school and become a licensed doctor in Idaho or anywhere in the USA. He has given a major black eye to KMC, his department and any of his like-minded “co-workers” at KMC.
Now anyone who may or must get health care provided by Burnett and “all his co-worker” will have to wonder if he is withholding good care or worse, actively trying to injure or kill patients he dislikes or disagrees with. Apparently so since that is what he states in his letter to the newspapers about Rep. Scott and Sheriff Wheeler. Threatening to withhold health care from anyone, singling out and threatening public officials by directing staff at Kootenai Medical Center and encouraging “all of his co-workers” to ensure care is not provided are all grounds for termination of Burnett and litigation for Burnett and KMC. Neither Rep. Scott nor Sheriff Wheeler threatened any one nor trashed their Constitutional oaths.
Burnett’s pledge to uphold the Hippocratic Oath is no more important or meaningful than Rep. Scott’s and Sheriff Wheeler’s oaths to uphold the Constitution. They don’t get to pick which Articles of our Federal and State constitutions they will defend or ignore or destroy, they honor them all. Unfortunately, Burnett has proven himself different and will seemingly pick and choose which parts of the Hippocratic Oath he will apply to patients who may have the misfortune of needing his medical care.
This issue is not going to go away and ignoring it will only damage your reputation more.
