And the Insanity Continues in Idaho!

Governor Brad Little needs to be reminded of his duty to the people of the great State of Idaho

And the Insanity Continues in Idaho!

And the Insanity Continues in Idaho,

Thanks to Governor Brad Little

When Governor Brad Little was elected, he was expected to make decisions based on the people’s rights as guaranteed by our U.S. Constitution as well as the Idaho State Constitution, which he swore an oath to defend. Gov. Little has failed to uphold his oath, not once but twice; on March 25th, 2020 for a three week period and again on April 15th, until April 30th when he ordered a “stay at home” edict.  Gov. Little has disregarded all requests to end his “stay at home order”, including the request by the Idaho Republican Party.

In his speech on April 15th, he kept repeating that it is his job to keep the people of Idaho “safe.” That is not his job. As adults, it is “We the People” who are responsible for staying “safe”. As parents, it is our responsibility to keep our children safe, not his. When our governor abrogates our ability as adult citizens of the State of Idaho, he is dismissing us as responsible for our lives, our way of life, of our means to support ourselves and our families, and the ability to make the decisions that will determine our future.

After living in Bonner County, Idaho from March, 1997 until moving to Boundary County in September of 2005, opening up our real estate office in downtown Bonners Ferry, we have lived and loved our way of life here in the north woods by the Kootenai River. Because of the amount of US Forest Service land, BLM (Bureau of Land Management), privately owned timber land in Boundary County, there is not a lot of room for a large population. The total land mass of Boundary County is 1,278 square miles and as of 2018 the population was 11,948. The majority of jobs are government, those being the federal government (USFS, Border Patrol, Immigration & Naturalization Service), state employees, county schools, county and city employees.

It is a challenge owning your own business because of these dynamics, but it is a blessing to live here, having close relationships with friends and neighbors, and other business people as well. People work hard here to make a living to support their families, and as of March 25th, that ability was taken away from many residents here in the so-called name of “safety”. I have spoken to a number of people that know the meaning of struggle, even when the economy is good.

So many businesses have had to shut down because of the Governor’s “stay at home order”, and have been waiting for April 15th with the expectation that they would be able to get their businesses going again, if possible. That ability was jerked out from under them yesterday because Governor Little made the decision to extend the lockdown without considering the devastating effect this will have on Idaho’s northern most county, as well as the rest of the state of Idaho. Boundary County has had no coronavirus cases, but Little did not take that into consideration when he made his announcement to keep Idaho in a state of chaos and desperation for many people.

If Idahoans want to stay at home they should be allowed to do so. If they want to continue on with their lives outside the home, but want to take some precautions, there is a plethora of information to stay “safe” by doing a computer search, and if you want to know how to make a face mask that is easy and inexpensive, here is a great youtube video on how to do so:

Governor Brad Little needs to be reminded of his duty to the people of the great State of Idaho, by following the U.S. Constitution, in particular our First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. He also needs to obey the Idaho State Constitution, in particular, Section 1. INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF MAN. All men are by nature free and equal, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing and protecting property; pursuing happiness and securing safety. Section 2. POLITICAL POWER INHERENT IN THE PEOPLE. All political power is inherent in the people. Government is instituted for their equal protection and benefit, and they have the right to alter, reform or abolish the same whenever they may deem it necessary; and no special privileges or immunities shall ever be granted that may not be altered, revoked or repealed by the legislature.

Speaking to various Idahoans, several epithets, which are adjectives or descriptive phrases expressing a characteristic of the person or thing mentioned, have been used concerning Governor Bradley Jay Little. Probably the least offensive is that “he needs to grow a pair”. I would just say that if he is not up to doing his job to represent Idahoans as they need to be, he should get out of the way and let someone else stand up for us.

“The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
