School District Trustees Have Forgotten
Who They Work For
Following Wednesday’s hearing regarding the LPOSD’s illegal November levy ballot, we all wandered out of the courtroom. Outside, a friend overheard one of the school board members in attendance refer to the other board members and admins in attendance as “her people.”
Well, I must tell you, I found that insulting.
You see, Ms. Lewis, I AM “your people.” My husband is “your people.” My daughter is “your people.” And many of my friends and neighbors out here in Sagle, too, are “your people.” You work for us. WE are the constituents of your district.
It’s a common problem throughout the nation that school board members become beholden NOT to the constituents of whom they are SUPPOSED to represent and for whose interests they are SUPPOSED to look out for, but rather the district’s. And the LPOSD school board has made it abundantly clear they are no different.
It’s clear that they believe they are entitled to keep the tax dollars they’ll generate from their illegal levy ballot, a ballot that omitted required language informing us of exactly how much the levy costs us. That’s the opposite of looking out for your people.
Nevertheless, I am thankful for the many kids who attended; they received a great life lesson in how NOT to behave when you’ve made an error, and how to stand up for your rights when you’ve been wronged.
Thank you to the plaintiff, Mr. Skinner, for doing what’s right.
