The Lake Pend O’Reille School District
Has Betrayed Our Trust

Trust” is the root of the word “trustee.” And trust is what the LPOSD trustees (aka: the school board) assured voters we would get if we just voted “yes” on their November levy last year.

But that’s not what we got.

First was the language the district used in its marketing, words like “indefinite” and “stable funding” rather than “permanent,” which voters have since told me were vague and confusing and didn’t say to them “permanent tax.” But the most dishonest and unethical thing they’ve done is their refusal to rescind an election they know, and admit, violated Idaho state law: they omitted from their levy ballot the legally required language that fully informs voters of the exact costs per assessed property value to property owners. And, curiously, they commissioned five attorneys the day after the election for what’s noted as “Election Challenge,” weeks before one was ever mounted.

Further, they violated a second law—the one that requires school boards to comply with state statutes—when they violated the election law.

The LPOSD is modeling for our children how NOT to take responsibility for one’s actions; they’re showing our children that the ends justify the means, and that if you want something, it’s ok to cheat and bully others to attain it.

Is that the kind of message we want our children to learn?
