$25 Million PERMANENT Levy

The Bonner County Republican Central Committee (BCRCC) has passed a resolution in opposition to Lake Pend Oreille School District’s proposed $25 million permanent levy that will be on the ballot November 5th.

Based on the GOP Platform: “We believe government must practice fiscal responsibility, and that taxpayers shall allow the government only the money necessary to provide appropriate functions”; and “We support lower federal, state, and local taxes.

High taxes are a burden on businesses, families, and individuals”; and “We support efforts to improve our public school system. We also recognize that more government spending does not necessarily generate improved schools.”

A final reason for voting against this proposed permanent levy is that it reduces the school district’s accountability to the voters of the district.

With the money coming in automatically, the district has no incentive to justify its expenditures to the voters or to make a case for its use of school levy funds.

While a case-by-case levy may be inconvenient to the LPOSD, this process insures that voters are kept informed about how and where the district wishes to spend funds and protects the voters’ right to approve or disapprove proposed expenditures.

For these reasons, the BCRCC encourages everyone to get out and vote to preserve your rights by voting AGAINST the Lake Pend Oreille School District PERMANENT levy. In-Person Absentee voting is available October 15 through November 1 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM at the Elections Office.
