A New Day Dawns with President Trump

A New Day Dawns

A New Day Dawns

by Jim Boyer

The founding of our country should be a lesson for all of us, but for some it has been ignored. In America’s battle for independence people longing for liberty and self determination risked their lives, their property and their eventual freedom to fight for those God given rights that all men are born to.

They went up against the most powerful nation in the world and endured extreme odds in pursuit of liberty. When they were finally victorious and found themselves on the verge of becoming the most powerful and prosperous nation the world had ever known, they did what no conquering force on earth had ever done before; they wrote and adopted a constitution denying themselves power. They created a government designed to be controlled by the people. They created a nation founded on liberty.

Rather than live by this inspiring example, much of our country has been willing to subordinate themselves to politicians who have taken citizen service to an ugly and distorted place. Generations of politicians have abolished the ideals expressed in our Constitution in order to create power and wealth for themselves. They have turned patriotic volunteerism into careers supported by money confiscated from working citizens in the form of ever growing taxes. Ironically, taxes are what got this ball rolling in the first place.

But now, we stand on the threshold of reclaiming our blessings as more people sense the potential we have all been afforded by the election of Donald J. Trump. It is up to each of us to join the effort to secure the heritage we have been blessed with so our children and grandchildren can experience the freedom and opportunity for self determination that are the bedrocks of this republic.

I doubt that anyone one else in politics today would have had the courage to stand in front of congress along with all the living past presidents and take the side of the people gathered in the mall to call them out as he did. In displaying an attitude of nationalistic populism rather than either of the dominant political philosophies, Donald Trump became a third party candidate running from within a recognized party.

While he has shown some faulty understanding of political science, he has given each and every one of us a chance to stand with him for our own welfare and draw him to embrace the heritage that our forefathers left for us. With our support, he will fight for the best outcome for America, of that we can be sure.

In the short term he has given the nation a lesson in the mindset of the establishment media.

In his address to America, President Donald J. Trump said; “For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capitol, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.”

While he stated what the majority of the nation understands, it is clear the icons of the industry that incessantly promoted Hillary Clinton do not agree.

Chuck Todd of NBC said Trump was “insulting every living president sitting next to him”. I disagree. Looking at the history of the men sitting behind President Trump, I argue it is them who, each in their own way insulted us.

It can be said that President Trump and the cabinet he is assembling are similar to our founders in their endeavor. They are all successful and wealthy men and women. They do not need government to advance their fortunes or power. But, they are standing in service to the people of America and are united in the pursuit of reclaiming for the people the reins of power that have been held by the establishment for too long and with a preponderance of detrimental results.

Our new president said; “It’s time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget, that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots. We all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American flag.

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky. They fill their heart with the same dreams and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator. So, to all Americans in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words: You will never be ignored again.”

To that sentiment, Dan Rather who became wealthy producing fake news stories and relentlessly lying to disparage America’s Vietnam veterans said, “There was little or nothing of uplift… I imagine many more being turned off, even sickened, rather than inspired by what our new President had to say”

When I ponder these comments from the disconnected cheerleaders for the beltway bubble, I first wonder what drives them to think like this. I wonder what it is they are trying to achieve by stirring discontent where ever they can. But, what I wonder about the most is what other Americans are hearing and thinking and who among us supports the media philosophy.

I sense that the glory days of the media controlling our culture with less than factual hyperbole may be coming to an end. And like the thousands who marched, destroyed property, gave hateful speeches and attacked our law enforcement officers following the inauguration, they are lashing out to fight for a philosophy many of them don’t really understand.

But, a new day is dawning. The future is ours to dictate and history is ours to write. The long years of division and pessimism are over. The bounty of optimism is here for us to share with our neighbors, our children and those who voted against this opportunity.

The American people have the power right in our hands, if we will only stand together and use it.

  1. For those who would learn about the foundations of our republic, I can’t recommend highly enough Professor Joanne Freeman’s “Yale Freeman Lectures” – an open course series on youtube. Aside from being a charming gal, Professor Freeman is a very animated and enthusiastic lecturer – she is so informed and engaged in her topic that often she seems to be giving a firsthand account of Washington or Jefferson or the Constitutional Convention, or events during the war. Interesting to hear how our founders backed their way into the Philadelphia Convention, how a mortified Jefferson sat alone pouting as his draft of the Declaration of Independence was edited by committee, or Washington’s none too flattering appraisal of New Englanders.Particularly for those not in the habit of reading, these lectures are a very enjoyable source.
