2016, The Year Propaganda Ran Rampant

If we get truth and facts from our government some of our issues wouldn't feel so far apart.

Propaganda

By Christian Schwab

Oxford Online Dictionary describes propaganda as “information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view”. To this end Congress passed THE SMITH–MUNDT ACT of 1948 which forbids our government officials from using propaganda to manipulate opinion.  Congress was pressured for transparency as Americans watched Hitler’s propaganda machine in action.

Then came September 11, 2011. As terror struck our country, Congress went to work looking for weaknesses in America’s security.  With passage of the NDAA2013, the transparency which lasted for  generations was gone. Under George Bush the side effects were manageable and most Americans did not even realize the extent the government was collecting their personal information.

This platform of using sly language and misleading propaganda was escalated year after year under the Obama administration. Over seven years Americans heard – time and time again – misleading representation of the Affordable Care Act. One sided views on Climate Change using speculative science (technologically advanced models, like Al Gore’s 2006 documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ have been proven wrong), and vetting of Syrian Refugees.

The 2016 election of Donald Trump has shown how fragmented a country can become when their own Government, Big Corporations, and Special Interest groups, subvert honesty and integrity. The left blame the Conservative Think Tanks, Media outlets, and the ‘Koch Brothers” ignoring the left’s Socialist Think Tanks,  Media outlets, and George Soros.

Daily, the Left attacks “Fake News“, which has become any view but their own, and the Right attacks the establishment Media as “Fake News” because they have been inundated by socialist activists instead of real investigators.

We may not be able to control the leftist propaganda machine, or even the right’s propaganda machine, but maybe if we get truth and facts from our government some of our issues wouldn’t feel so far apart.

  1. Finding truth and facts within government or media is not likely to happen as long as the policy of not holding insiders responsible continues.

If aggressive prosecutions are ever carried out and sentences are served, maybe even to include the loss of comfortable pensions and life long benefits, then we may see a change in the culture of lying for expedience.

If Susan Rice and Evelyn Farkas avoid indictments and are instead marched in front of congress for a week of showboating and grandstanding we can expect the same old, same old
